Introduction

Hetosa district is one of the 22 districts of Arsi zone. No consistent and dependable data obtained regarding the derivation of the name of the district. The main Objective of this paper is to compile both basic qualitative and quantitative information regarding the district’s physical settings, social and economic conditions as well as potentialities and problems for development so that potential users may be benefited. Therefore, the profile is believed to serve as a data source for policy formulators, planners, decision-making bodies, investors, donor agencies, different government and non-government bodies and others.

This paper is compiled by collecting data mostly from the concerned district and zonal sector departments as well as from the documents available in our office. However, due to shortage of time, dalliance in response from the respondent bodies, financial constraints and human power document has the limitations of accuracy, availability of all required data

The paper has three parts. The first part deals with physical features like location, relief, drainage, soil, vegetation and wild life. The second chapter focused on socio-economic aspects such as human population, economic activities and social infrastructures. The final chapter highlights shortly the existing problems and potentialities in Hetosa district.
